Jouni Hokkanen is a Finnish film director and screenwriter. He is best known for his critically acclaimed films, “The Other Side of Hope” and “Lights in the Dusk”.

Hokkanen was born in 1965 in Helsinki, Finland. He studied film at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, where he graduated with a degree in Film and Television. He then went on to study at the London International Film School, where he earned a master’s degree.

Hokkanen’s first feature film, “The Other Side of Hope”, was released in 2003 and received critical acclaim for its exploration of themes of immigration and racism in Finland. The film was followed by “Lights in the Dusk”, a film about a lonely security guard in Helsinki. The film was a critical success and won several awards, including the Grand Prix at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.

Hokkanen has since directed several short films and documentaries, including “The Temptation of St. Tony”, which won the Grand Prix at the Tampere International Short Film Festival. He has also directed several television series, including the crime drama “Tatuoitu Mies”, which aired on YLE, Finland’s national broadcaster.
