BIO

John Marks is an award-winning American film director and screenwriter. He is best known for his work on critically acclaimed independent films such as The Place Beyond the Pines, Take Shelter, and The Spectacular Now.

Marks was born in New York City in 1972 and grew up in a working-class family in the Bronx. He attended the prestigious High School of Performing Arts and graduated with honors. After high school, he attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he studied film and television.

Marks began his career in the early 2000s, directing music videos for bands such as The Strokes and Interpol. In 2006, he made his feature debut with the independent film, The Place Beyond The Pines. The film was a critical and commercial success and launched his career as a respected director.

Following this success, Marks directed the science fiction drama Take Shelter in 2011. The film was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and won several awards. He then went on to direct the romantic drama The Spectacular Now, starring Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

In recent years, Marks has directed a number of television projects, including episodes of the hit TV series The Leftovers and The Americans. He is currently in post-production on his upcoming feature film, The Burning Woman, starring Sienna Miller and Christina Hendricks.
