John Drever is an award-winning British film director and screenwriter. He is best known for his critically acclaimed films such as The House of Mirth (2000) and The Last King of Scotland (2006).
Born in London in 1968, John Drever grew up in a creative household, with his father being an artist and his mother a film writer. His parents encouraged him to pursue his creative passions, leading to him studying English Literature at the University of Oxford. While there, he developed a keen interest in film, which he followed up with a Master’s degree in Film and Television Studies.
In 1995, John Drever directed his first feature film, The House of Mirth, which earned him critical acclaim and a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) nomination for Best British Film. His follow-up film, The Last King of Scotland, was released in 2006, and went on to win two Academy Awards.
Since then, John Drever has gone on to direct a number of films, including the award-winning drama, The Constant Gardener (2005), as well as the dark psychological thriller, Red Road (2006). He also directed the romantic drama, The Reader (2008), which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
John Drever has also directed a number of television series, including the crime drama, The Killing (2011), the period drama, The White Queen (2013), and the post-apocalyptic drama, The Walking Dead (2010).
