BIO

Johan Palmgren is a Swedish director of film and television. Palmgren is best known for his award-winning feature films, such as the acclaimed drama, Brothers (2004). He has also directed several television series, including the critically acclaimed The Bridge (2011).

Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Palmgren graduated from the Film Institute at Gothenburg University in 1996. In 1999, he directed his first short film, 'Batteri', which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival. He followed this up with his feature film debut, Brothers (2004). The film was a critical and commercial success, winning several awards, including the Swedish Academy Award and the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

Palmgren then directed the television series The Bridge (2011), which was set in the Swedish-Danish border town of Malmo. The series was praised for its realistic depiction of the complexities of life in the region, and was nominated for several awards, including a BAFTA and a Golden Globe. In 2014, he directed his second feature film, Ingrid Bergman in Her Own Words (2015), an intimate portrait of the life of the iconic Swedish actress.

Palmgren is also active in the Swedish film industry, serving as a board member of the Swedish Film Institute. He is an advocate for the development of new talent and the production of quality film and television.
