Joe Schimmel is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is best known for his work on the films, The God Who Wasn't There, Holy Ghost, and Miracle Maker.

Schimmel was born in Los Angeles, California in 1970. He grew up in a close-knit and supportive family, and from a young age, he was exposed to both the entertainment industry and the Catholic faith. Schimmel's mother was a professional theater actor, while his father was a devout Catholic who taught him the importance of faith in his life.

Schimmel attended Loyola Marymount University, where he received a bachelor's degree in film production. After graduation, he began a career in the film industry, working as a production assistant, screenwriter, and editor. He soon developed a passion for making documentaries, and in 2004, he released his first feature-length documentary, The God Who Wasn't There. The film explored the controversy surrounding the existence of God and was well-received by audiences and critics alike.

In 2010, Schimmel released his second feature-length documentary, Holy Ghost. The film explored the history and modern-day phenomena of divine intervention, and was praised for its thoughtful and thought-provoking examination of faith. Following the success of Holy Ghost, Schimmel released his third feature-length documentary, Miracle Maker in 2011.
