BIO

Jochen Hick is a German film director, producer and screenwriter. Born in 1959, he grew up in the Black Forest region of southern Germany. He attended the University of Freiburg and the Berlin University of the Arts, where he studied theatre and directing. After graduating, he worked for various television channels in Germany and abroad, including ARD, ZDF, ARTE, and BBC.

In 1990, Hick made his directorial debut with the feature film “Das Krumme Haus” (The Crooked House). The film won several awards, including the German Film Award for Best Feature, and the German Film Critics Award. He followed it up with the equally successful “Die Unendliche Geschichte” (The Never-Ending Story) in 1993.

Hick then moved to the United States and worked in Hollywood. He directed and wrote the film “The Courtyard”, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 1996. He also wrote and directed the award-winning drama “The Red Queen” in 1998.

In 2004, Hick returned to Germany and directed the drama “Der Letzte Zug” (The Last Train). The film was nominated for six German Film Awards and won the Best Production Design award. He followed this up with the comedy “Kater” in 2006, which was nominated for six German Film Awards and won the Best Director award.

In 2009, Hick directed and wrote the critically acclaimed drama “Die Unerzogenen” (The Unruly). The film won five awards at the Berlin Film Festival, including Best Film. He has since directed a number of other films, including “Der Fluss” (The River), “Der Untergang” (The Downfall), and the recent “Der Schatz der Nibelungen” (The Treasure of the Nibelungs).

Hick’s films are known for their strong visual style and use of music. He has worked with some of Germany’s most acclaimed actors, such as Til Schweiger, Moritz Bleibtreu, and Ulrich Thomsen. His films have won numerous awards and have been screened at festivals around the world.
