Jean Labib is an Egyptian-American director, producer, and screenwriter. He has worked in both television and film, creating and directing projects including the feature films ‘Sparrows’, ‘Tides’, and ‘The Clearing’. Jean was born in Cairo, Egypt, but moved to the United States when he was nine.
Jean attended the University of Southern California’s film school, where he earned his Master of Fine Arts in Directing. During his time at USC, Jean was the recipient of the prestigious Robert Redford Directing Award, an exceptional honor. After graduation, Jean worked as a director and producer for several independent films and television shows.
Jean's feature film directorial debut, ‘Sparrows’, was well received, with critics praising the film for its “compelling story and strong performances”. The film was the recipient of several awards, including Best Director at the San Francisco Film Festival.
In 2010, Jean directed the feature film ‘Tides’, starring Peter Stormare. The film was an official selection at the South by Southwest Film Festival and the Los Angeles Film Festival. The film also earned Jean an award for Best Director at the International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg.
In 2012, Jean directed the feature film ‘The Clearing’, starring John Cusack and Danny Glover. The film was an official selection at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival, and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the latter.
Jean has also directed several television shows, including ‘Law & Order’, ‘CSI: Miami’, and ‘The O.C.’. In 2010, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for his work on ‘The O.C.’.
