Irm Sommer is a German-born film director, best known for her work in the horror and thriller genres.

Born in Frankfurt in 1978, Sommer developed an interest in film at an early age. She was particularly influenced by classic horror films such as The Shining and The Exorcist, and her love of horror and suspense motivated her to pursue a career in filmmaking.

Sommer attended film school in Berlin, where she studied both film and television production. After graduating, she worked as an assistant director on a number of films and TV projects, before finally making her directorial debut in 2007 with the horror-thriller The Silent House.

The Silent House earned Sommer critical acclaim, and she quickly established herself as one of the most exciting up-and-coming directors in the genre. Her follow-up project, the psychological horror The Descent, was released in 2009 and was a hit with audiences and critics alike.

Since then, Sommer has gone on to direct numerous other films and television shows, including the award-winning miniseries The Red Forest, the critically acclaimed horror movie The Night, as well as episodes of the hit television series The Walking Dead.

Sommer is best known for her atmospheric and suspenseful style, often combining elements of horror and suspense to create an unsettling atmosphere. Her films are often praised for their strong visuals, inventive camera work and compelling characters, and she has won numerous awards for her work.
