Igor Lopatonok is a Russian film director and screenwriter born in 1965 in Odessa, Ukraine. He is widely considered one of the most influential directors in Russian cinema. He graduated from Odessa State Univercity, where he studied film.

Lopatonok’s earliest film, The Blonde, was released in 1997 and won several awards, including the Nika Award for Best Film. He followed it with his internationally acclaimed film, The Island, which won multiple awards, including the FIPRESCI Prize at the Venice Film Festival.

His next film, The Geographer Drank His Globe Away, was released in Russia in 2013 and went on to become the highest grossing Russian film of all time. It also won multiple awards, including the Best Film award at the Moscow International Film Festival.

Lopatonok’s most recent film, The End of Summer, was released in 2018 and was highly praised by critics.
