Igor Bezinović (born April 6, 1931) is a Croatian film director, screenwriter, and actor. He is best known for directing the films Podzemlje (1981), Večernja zvona (1982), and H-8 (1988).

Bezinović was born in Zagreb, Croatia, to a family of actors. His father was the renowned actor, director, and playwright Mladen Bezinović. He began his acting career at the age of 12, appearing in several plays at the National Theatre in Zagreb. He continued his acting career throughout his teenage years and eventually attended the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb.

After graduating, Bezinović began directing for the theatre, as well as for television. In 1969, he made his feature film debut with the drama The Way of Life. His follow-up films Podzemlje and Večernja zvona were both critically acclaimed and made him a household name in the former Yugoslavia.

Bezinović’s 1988 film H-8 was his most successful film. The film follows the story of a group of teenagers who are sent to a juvenile detention center and their struggles to survive and escape. The film was a massive success and is still considered one of the best Croatian films of all time.

Bezinović has also written several books, including a novel, two collections of short stories, and a memoir. He has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the Golden Arena for Best Director at the Pula Film Festival.

Bezinović is still active today and continues to make films. He is widely respected as one of Croatia’s most important film directors. His films are known for their complex characters, strong social messages, and unique visual style. He has influenced generations of filmmakers and his work continues to be celebrated.
