Ida Lindgren, born in 1983, is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Enköping and Stockholm. Her practice is rooted in contemporary art and spans moving image, lens based art, and installation. Through her work, she examines how power operates within different social spaces and how these dynamics are embodied physically. Central to her research is the relationship between care and control, and the ways in which structural forces shape the agency of both human beings and materials.
With a background in documentary filmmaking, time has become a fundamental material in Lindgren’s artistic process. She works with time by remaining present in the present moment, by duplicating temporal experiences, or by deliberately disorienting time and space to create uncertainty for the viewer. Alongside this, she consistently investigates the tension between image and reality. Her projects often begin with existing materials and specific locations, which she uses to explore processes of identity formation and the role of representation in both individual and collective contexts.
Over the course of her career, Lindgren has moved from working primarily with narrative film to expanding the moving image into spatial and performative contexts. Her current practice includes video, photography, sculpture, installation, and performance.
She has studied at the Royal Institute of Art, the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts, and the Valand Academy. Her work has been presented in a range of international cultural and cinematic contexts, including Fotografiska, Berlinale, and IDFA. In parallel with her artistic practice, Lindgren undertakes commissioned work in photography and film, and is also active as a teacher and guest lecturer.
