Horacio Alcalá is a Mexican-American director, writer, producer, and actor. He was born in Mexico City in 1975 and moved to Los Angeles in 1989. He is best known for his work on the Emmy-nominated television series “The Son”, which he co-created, directed, and executive produced.

Alcalá began his career in the entertainment industry as an actor. After graduating from Hollywood High School, he began appearing in television and film roles. He was cast in a recurring role on the hit television series “ER” and had a small part in the Academy Award-winning movie “Traffic”.

In 2002, Alcalá made his directorial debut with the feature film “The Insomniac”. The film earned him a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. He went on to direct the award-winning feature “Cesar Chavez”, starring Michael Peña and America Ferrera.

Alcalá's most successful project to date is the television series “The Son”, which he co-created with producer-writer Philipp Meyer. The series stars Pierce Brosnan and tells the story of a Mexican-American family's rise to power. He directed nine episodes of the series, which earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.

Alcalá has also directed episodes of several other television series, including “Narcos”, “The Chi”, and “Queen of the South”. He is currently in pre-production for the feature film “Voyage of the Daughter”, which he co-wrote and will direct.

Alcalá is an active member of the Directors Guild of America and serves on the board of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers. He is passionate about increasing representation of Latinos in the entertainment industry and has been a vocal advocate for diversity in film and television.
