Heiner Heinke is a light designer, independent filmmaker and writer based in Dresden, Germany. He studied art history and cinematography at the Munich Film School and has worked across short fiction as well as in the film industry as a gaffer and best boy. Drawing on his background in art history, cinematography and lighting, his projects show a deep interest in how people build their lives around artistic expression, whether within the art world or the film world. His documentaries explore essential human experiences including time, loss, passing and expression. Known for his warm, respectful and loyal approach, he creates an atmosphere in which his protagonists open their hearts with unusual honesty. Working often as a one man team, he forges close relationships with the people he films and accompanies them in their search for meaning in life.
