Guido Lombardi is an Italian writer, director, and producer. Lombardi was born in Rome and developed an early interest in cinema. After completing high school, he moved to the United States to pursue a degree in Film Studies at The American Film Institute in Los Angeles.
In 2007, Lombardi wrote and directed his first feature film, "The Red and the Black," which won the Special Jury Prize at the Rome International Film Festival. His second feature, "The Red and The White," was released in 2008, and earned him the Grand Prize at the São Paulo International Film Festival.
In 2009, Lombardi wrote and directed his third feature film, "The Desert of the Tartars," which was described by critics as a "masterpiece of Italian cinema." The film won the Critics' Prize at the Venice Film Festival and was later nominated for the European Film Award for Best Film.
In 2012, Lombardi wrote and directed his fourth feature film, "The Great Beauty," which earned him the Best European Film Award at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. The film also won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
Since then, Lombardi has written and directed several other films, including "The Book of Vision" (2018) and "The Traitor" (2019). His latest film, "The World to Come," is scheduled for release in 2021.
Throughout his career, Lombardi has received numerous awards and nominations, including the Italian Golden Globe for Best Director and the David di Donatello for Best Director. He is also a member of the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists.
Lombardi's films are known for their focus on human relationships and his signature visual style, which blends realism with surrealism. His work is also characterized by its use of long takes and its exploration of complex themes, such as the displacement of people during wartime.
