Frank John Hughes is an American actor, writer, and director best known for his roles in films such as The Outsiders, Red Dawn, and The Goonies. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1958, Hughes developed an early interest in the performing arts, and began acting in plays at his local high school.

In the early 1980s, Hughes made his mark on Hollywood with his role in the coming-of-age drama The Outsiders. His portrayal of Dallas Winston, a tough and rebellious greaser, earned him critical acclaim and made him a household name. Following this success, Hughes went on to star in several other films, including the popular 1984 action movie Red Dawn and the popular 1985 adventure comedy The Goonies.
