Francesca Balbo is an Italian film director, screenwriter, and producer. She is best known for her critically acclaimed films such as the drama "Amore Splendido" (2003), the comedy "L'Amica del Cuore" (2005), the historical drama "The Abbot of Montecassino" (2008) and the romantic comedy "Amore senza Limiti" (2009).

Born in Milan, Italy in 1965, Francesca Balbo grew up in a family that was passionate about the arts. Her father, a renowned composer, introduced her to the world of music and theatre. From a young age, she was fascinated by the power of storytelling in all its forms.

She attended the University of Milan, where she earned a degree in Art History and Literature. After graduating, she worked as a film critic for various publications, and also wrote screenplays.

In 2000, Francesca made her directorial debut with the short film "Death of a Poet". It won several awards, including the prestigious Silver Ribbon from the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists.
