Femke Heemskerk is a Dutch swimmer and former Olympic gold medalist. She was born on May 21, 1986 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and began swimming at the age of six. She quickly developed a passion for the sport and went on to become one of the top swimmers in the country.

Heemskerk made her international debut at the 2003 World Aquatics Championships. She won silver in the 200-meter freestyle, and followed this up with a gold in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay. She continued to shine at the 2004 Athens Olympics, taking home gold in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay, and silver in the 200-meter freestyle.

Heemskerk continued her success at the 2005 World Aquatics Championships, taking home gold in both the 400-meter freestyle and 4x200-meter freestyle relay. She added to her Olympic medal collection in 2008, with two golds in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay and the 4x100-meter medley relay.

In 2009, Heemskerk was named the female "Athlete of the Year" in the Netherlands. She also won two gold medals at the 2009 World Aquatics Championships, and added another gold in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay at the 2012 London Olympics.

Heemskerk has gone on to become one of the most decorated Dutch swimmers in history, with a total of seven Olympic medals and eighteen medals in World Aquatics Championships. She has also achieved success as a professional swimmer, setting several national records and earning multiple titles in the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle events.

Outside of the pool, Heemskerk has become a highly sought-after motivational speaker. She has also made a name for herself as an ambassador for the Dutch Swimming Association, and as an advocate for better swimming facilities in the country.
