BIO

Emma Hindley is a British television director, known for her work on ITV's popular soap opera Coronation Street. She has directed over 300 episodes of the show, as well as other television series, films, and theatre productions.

Hindley was born in Manchester and grew up in the city before attending the University of Liverpool to study drama. After graduating, she worked as a runner for a local television production company before going on to direct a few independent short films and theatre productions.

In 2004, Hindley joined the crew of Coronation Street as an assistant director. She was promoted to director in 2008 and has since directed some of the show’s most iconic episodes, including the wedding of Steve McDonald and Tracy Barlow, and the dramatic storm episode in 2017.

As well as her work on Coronation Street, Hindley has directed episodes of other series, such as Doctors, Casualty, and The Bill. She has also directed some feature films, most notably the award-winning drama My Pure Land, which was released in 2017.

Hindley’s work has been praised for its attention to detail and for capturing the subtle nuances of the characters on screen. She has won several awards for her work, including a Royal Television Society Award for Best Soap and Continuing Drama, and a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) nomination for Best Single Drama for My Pure Land.

Hindley has also been a vocal advocate for increasing diversity in television and film. She has spoken at several events, including the Edinburgh International Film Festival, about the importance of representation and inclusion in the industry.

Today, Hindley continues to work as a director on Coronation Street, as well as other projects. She is passionate about her craft and is dedicated to creating compelling stories and characters that will resonate with viewers.
