BIO

Eero Tuomikoski (born June 15, 1971) is a Finnish film director, screenwriter and producer. He has directed numerous successful feature films and documentaries, both in Finland and abroad.

Tuomikoski was born in Kuopio, Finland and grew up there. He studied media at the University of Tampere, Finland, and then went on to study directing at the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Helsinki. After graduating in 1997, he started his career as a director and screenwriter for a number of short films.

In 2003, Tuomikoski made his feature film debut with the Finnish drama “Musta jää” (Black Ice), which he wrote and directed. The film was a critical and financial success in Finland, and it helped to launch Tuomikoski’s career. Since then, he has gone on to direct a number of films, including the feature films “Levottomat 3” (Restless 3, 2006), “Rööperi” (2008), “Kätilö” (The Midwife, 2015), and “Kohta 18” (Almost 18, 2017).

In addition to his feature film projects, Tuomikoski has also directed several documentaries, including “Tuliportaat” (The Stairway to Heaven, 2006), “Toiveiden kaupunki” (City of Dreams, 2009), and “Kova kaupunki” (Hard City, 2011). He has also directed television series, such as “Kovan maan” (Hard Ground, 2008) and “Kun kuu loistaa” (When the Moon Shines, 2016).

Tuomikoski’s films have been screened at numerous international film festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival, and the Venice Film Festival. He has won several awards, including the Jussi Award for Best Director for “Musta jää” in 2003, and the Nordic Council Film Prize for “Kätilö” in 2016.

Tuomikoski is currently living in Helsinki, Finland. He is married to the Finnish film director and producer, Mika Kaurismäki, and they have two children.
