Dennis Lanson is an award-winning American film and television director who is best known for his work on the hit ABC series Scandal, as well as for directing the feature film The Perks of Being a Wallflower. He was born in Los Angeles, California in 1965 and went on to attend the University of Southern California, where he graduated with a degree in film production.
Lanson’s career began in the late 1980s when he worked as a production assistant on several feature films. He then moved on to become an assistant director and worked on the television series The Cosby Show, Roseanne, and NYPD Blue. In 1995, Lanson made his directing debut with an episode of the acclaimed drama series ER. This was followed by episodes of other popular television series such as The X-Files, The West Wing, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
In 2012, Lanson directed the feature film The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This was his first feature film and it was met with critical acclaim, earning him a nomination for Best Director at the Independent Spirit Awards. He has since gone on to direct several television movies, including the Lifetime Original Movies Who is Clark Rockefeller? and Girl in the Box.
In 2012, Lanson joined the directing team of the hit ABC series Scandal. He has since helmed some of the show’s most memorable episodes, including the series finale. His work has earned him three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.
In addition to his directing work, Lanson has also served as an executive producer on a number of television projects. These include the hit Showtime series Homeland, as well as the Netflix original series Narcos.
