Del McCoury is an American bluegrass singer and musician. He was born on February 1, 1939, in York County, Pennsylvania. He was influenced by the traditional music of his Appalachian upbringing.

At age nine, he learned to play the banjo from his father, who was a coal miner and an amateur musician. By the time he was fifteen, he was touring with a band called the Golden Valley Boys.

During the 1960s, Del began to develop his own style of bluegrass, blending traditional Appalachian sounds with more modern sounds of the time. By the 1970s, Del had formed his own band, the Del McCoury Band, and began to tour extensively.

In 1992, Del's career took off when he was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry, becoming the first bluegrass artist to do so in twenty years. He has continued to perform regularly on the radio show and at the Grand Ole Opry.
