David Suzuki is a Canadian scientist, environmentalist, author, and television personality. He is best known for his work on the popular television series The Nature of Things, which he hosted from 1979 to 2001. He has written over 50 books and spoken out on environmental issues for more than four decades.

Suzuki was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1936. He attended the University of British Columbia, where he graduated with a degree in zoology. After graduating, he went on to earn a Ph.D. in genetics from the University of Chicago. He also served as a professor at the University of British Columbia for more than 20 years.

In the early 1970s, Suzuki began to become more active in environmental issues. He was a founding member of the Don't Make a Wave Committee, a group that opposed U.S. nuclear testing in Alaska. He also became a vocal advocate for the protection of wild salmon and other fish species in British Columbia.

Suzuki's media career began in the late 1970s with the launch of the CBC television series The Nature of Things, which he hosted for more than 20 years. He has also appeared in numerous other television programs and films, including the documentary Force of Nature. He has also served as a board member of several environmental organizations, including Greenpeace International and the David Suzuki Foundation.

In addition to his media career, Suzuki has written extensively on the environment, publishing over 50 books on the subject. His most famous book, The Sacred Balance, was published in 1997 and dealt with the interconnectedness of life on Earth.

Suzuki has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Order of Canada, the Order of British Columbia, and the Right Livelihood Award. In 2009, he was featured on the Royal Canadian Mint’s “Famous Canadian” series of coins.
