David Crosby is an American singer, songwriter and actor who has been an influential figure in the music industry for more than five decades. Born in Los Angeles, California on August 14, 1941, Crosby was raised by his father, Floyd Crosby, a cinematographer, and his mother, Aliph Van Cortlandt Whitehead. His parents divorced when he was just seven years old.

Crosby’s music career began in the late 1950s when he formed a band called The Jet Set with some of his school friends. The band became popular at local clubs and soon opened for acts such as The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, and The Beach Boys. In the mid 1960s, Crosby joined The Byrds and helped them achieve their most successful period. With the release of their hit single, “Eight Miles High”, The Byrds made history and Crosby became a household name.

After The Byrds broke up in 1968, Crosby joined Stephen Stills and Graham Nash to form the band Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Together they released a string of highly successful albums and toured extensively. Their debut album, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, was released in 1969 and went on to become one of the most influential albums of the era.

In addition to his musical career, Crosby has also enjoyed a successful acting career. He appeared in the 1969 cult classic film, Easy Rider, and starred in the 1977 comedy, FM. He also starred in the TV movie, Walking After Midnight, in 1979 and had a recurring role as himself on the hit television show, Baywatch.

Throughout his career, Crosby has been honored with several awards including four Grammy Awards and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has also been involved in various charitable causes and was honored with the Humanitarian Award from MusiCares in 2011.
