Daniel Tammet is an English author, linguist, and autistic savant who is renowned for his extraordinary memory and mathematical abilities. Tammet was born in 1979 in London, England to a family of Estonian descent. At the age of four, he was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, a developmental disorder that affects communication and social interaction.

Tammet's early childhood was marked by extreme shyness, but he soon began showing signs of extraordinary mathematical and memory abilities. At the age of ten, he recited the number of pi from memory to 22,500 places, a feat that earned him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

In his teens, Tammet enrolled at a specialized college in Kent, England, where he studied computer science, language, and math. In 2004, he received his degree in mathematics and went on to pursue a Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of London.
