Danae Stratou is a Greek visual artist, sculptor, and filmmaker who has been creating pieces of art since the early 1990s. She is best known for her large-scale installations and public art projects. She has had solo exhibitions in countries such as Greece, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Stratou has also participated in numerous group exhibitions in Europe, the United States, and Asia.

Stratou was born in 1968 in Athens, Greece. She studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and the Royal College of Art in London. During her studies, she was heavily influenced by the works of conceptual artists such as Marcel Duchamp and Joseph Kosuth. She also drew inspiration from the works of filmmakers such as Chris Marker and Andrei Tarkovsky.

Stratou’s works often focus on the relationship between people and their urban environment. Her art installations often involve the participation of the audience, creating an interactive experience. Her pieces often address issues such as globalization, environmental degradation, and social alienation.

Stratou has been the recipient of numerous awards and prizes, including the Benaki Museum’s “Best Installation of the Year” in 2000, the “Best Documentary” at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 2007, and the first prize at the International Festival of Art and Technology in 2010.

Stratou has also collaborated on several public art projects, including the “Urban Interventions” project in Athens in 2007. This project created art installations in public spaces with the aim of revitalizing forgotten areas of the city.

In addition to her visual art practice, Stratou has also directed several documentary films. These include “Activist,” which focuses on the lives of activists in Greece, and “The Story of the Red Thread,” which looks at the lives of women in rural Greece.
