Aykroyd

Dan Aykroyd is a Canadian actor, comedian, and writer. He is best known for his work on the cult classic Ghostbusters and Saturday Night Live, for which he received an Emmy Award. Aykroyd has also appeared in numerous films, including The Blues Brothers, Trading Places, and Driving Miss Daisy.

Born in Ottawa, Canada on July 1st, 1952, Aykroyd was raised in a large Catholic family. His father, Samuel Aykroyd, was a civil engineer, and his mother, Lorraine Goulet, was a secretary. Aykroyd was interested in comedy at an early age, and as a teenager, he wrote a humor column for his high school newspaper.

After graduating from Carleton University in Ottawa, Aykroyd moved to Chicago, where he began performing stand-up comedy. His career began to take off after he was hired as a writer for the sketch comedy show Second City Television. This led to Aykroyd's breakthrough role on Saturday Night Live in 1975. On SNL, Aykroyd created characters such as Elwood Blues of the Blues Brothers, Beldar Conehead, and the Coneheads. He also wrote and performed sketches with John Belushi.

In 1980, Aykroyd and Belushi teamed up to star in the hit comedy The Blues Brothers. The movie was a massive success and made Aykroyd a household name. This led to other roles in films such as Ghostbusters (1984), Dragnet (1987), and Coneheads (1993).

In addition to being an actor and comedian, Aykroyd is also an entrepreneur. He co-founded the House of Blues chain of music venues in 1992 and created the Crystal Head Vodka brand in 2008. He also co-owns the Canadian chain of comedy clubs, the Laugh Resort.

Throughout his career, Aykroyd has been nominated for and won numerous awards. He was inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame in 2003 and the Order of Canada in 2005. In 2009, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
