Daan Willekens is a Belgian film director, editor, and producer. He was born on April 9th, 1974 in Ghent, Belgium.

Daan began his career in the film industry as an editor in 1997. He edited a number of short films before making his directorial debut with the short film, "De Grote Droom" in 2004. After this he began to gain a reputation as an up and coming talent.

In 2006, Daan wrote and directed his first feature film, "De Helaasheid Der Dingen". The film was a critical success, earning numerous awards, including the Grand Prix at the Brussels International Film Festival. It was also nominated for the prestigious European Film Award.

In 2013, Daan directed his second feature film, "Charlatan". The film was a thriller set in the 1930s and was well-received by critics. It won the Special Jury Prize at the Warsaw Film Festival and was nominated for the Lux Prize.

In 2014, Daan wrote, directed, and produced the documentary, "The Land Of The Enlightened". The film was an immersive journey into the Afghanistan of today and was widely praised for its innovative use of cinematography and editing. It won the Golden Eye Award at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

In 2017, Daan directed his third feature film, "Fauve". The film was an intense drama set in a small rural town in Canada. It won numerous awards, including the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. It was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
