Craig Biggio is an American former professional baseball player who played his entire career for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). He is a seven-time All-Star, four-time Golden Glove Award winner and a member of the 3,000 hit club.

Born on December 14, 1965 in Smithtown, New York, Biggio was the only child of his parents, Vince and Peggy Biggio. His father was a school teacher and his mother was a nurse. Biggio attended Kings Park High School where he played baseball, football, and basketball. He was a standout in all three sports but chose to pursue baseball in college. He attended Seton Hall University where he was an All-American selection in 1986 and 1987.

In 1987, Biggio was drafted in the first round of the MLB draft by the Houston Astros. He made his debut in 1988 and was an immediate success. He hit .264, stole 41 bases, hit 8 home runs and had 53 RBIs in his rookie season. In 1989, he was selected to his first of seven All-Star games. Biggio became the Astros' everyday second baseman in 1990. He would stay at the position for the next 14 years and go on to record a total of 668 doubles, good for 6th all-time. He also stole 414 bases, which is good for 25th all-time.

Biggio had a career year in 1998 when he hit .325, hit a career-high 22 home runs, and drove in 81 runs. He was also selected to the All-Star game and was the runner-up for the National League MVP. Biggio was a part of the Astros' 2005 World Series team, their first ever appearance in the Fall Classic.

Biggio retired from baseball in 2007 with 3,060 hits, good for 23rd all-time. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015, his first year of eligibility. Biggio also finished his career with a .281 batting average, 291 home runs, 1,175 RBIs, and 414 stolen bases.

Off the field, Biggio has been active in numerous charities. He has served as a spokesperson for the American Diabetes Association and the Houston Area Women’s Center. He and his wife Patty have also founded two charities, the Sunshine Kids Foundation and the Craig Biggio Foundation.
