Constantin von Westphalen (born 6 August 1986) is a German actor and voice actor. He is best known for his roles in the films ‘The Wave’ (2015), ‘Tulip Fever’ (2017) and ‘The Book Thief’ (2013).
Born in Berlin, Germany, Constantin developed an interest in acting at a young age. He studied theatre and film at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria, before moving to London, England to pursue further training at the Central School of Speech and Drama.
Constantin made his feature film debut in the drama ‘The Wave’ in 2015. The film tells the story of a high school teacher who attempts to instill his students with a sense of self-empowerment and responsibility. His work in the film earned him his first award nomination, for Best Actor in a German Film at the Bavarian Film Awards.
In 2016, Constantin starred opposite Holliday Grainger in the romantic drama ‘Tulip Fever’. The film follows a married woman in 17th century Amsterdam who falls in love with an artist hired to paint her portrait. Constantin’s performance earned him international recognition and he was nominated for Best Actor in a British Film at the British Independent Film Awards.
In 2017, Constantin starred in the German television series ‘Vera’. He played the role of the ambitious lawyer Patrick Weber, who is determined to take over the law firm of his father-in-law.
In 2018, Constantin made his debut in the United States with a role in the Netflix series ‘The Kominsky Method’. He starred alongside Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin in the show, which follows an aging acting coach and his long-time agent. Constantin also appeared in the 2019 Netflix series ‘Dark’, which follows a missing child in a German town.
Constantin has appeared in a variety of other television series and films, including ‘Das Boot’ (2018), ‘The Physician’ (2014), ‘Stromberg’ (2013) and ‘The Book Thief’ (2013). He has also voiced characters in many German-language animated films and series.
