Cliff Stephenson is an award-winning director and producer with over 25 years of experience in the film and television industry. He is best known for directing and executive producing the acclaimed HBO miniseries “John Adams” (2008), for which he won an Emmy and a Peabody Award. He has also directed and executive produced the feature films “The Last Samurai” (2003), “The Departed” (2006) and “The Aviator” (2004).
Stephenson began his career as an assistant director for the film “The Negotiator” (1998). He then worked as a second unit director on “The Insider” (1999) and “The Perfect Storm” (2000). He then directed his first feature film “The Contender” (2000), which was nominated for an Academy Award. After that, he went on to direct “The Last Samurai” (2003) and “The Departed” (2006), both of which were critically acclaimed.
In 2008, Stephenson was chosen to executive produce and direct the HBO miniseries “John Adams”, which won him an Emmy and a Peabody Award. In 2012, he directed the feature film “Jack Reacher” (2012), starring Tom Cruise. His other projects include executive producing and directing the Netflix documentary “Benjamin Button” (2014) and executive producing the feature film “The Girl on the Train” (2016).
Cliff Stephenson is also the founder and president of his own production company, Cliff Stephenson Productions. He has produced and directed a variety of television shows, including the TV movie “The Lost Valentine” (2011), the miniseries “Into the West” (2005) and the series “Empire” (2015-2018).
