BIO

Clay Westervelt is a multi-award winning film director, producer, and writer. He is best known for his work on the films “The Edge of Tomorrow”, “The Last Samurai”, and “The Expendables”. He was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Clay began his career as a film director in 1998 when he directed the short film “The Edge of Tomorrow”. The film won several awards, including the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Following this success, Clay went on to direct and produce several other films, including “The Last Samurai”, “The Expendables”, “The Italian Job”, and “The Tourist”. He was also a co-producer for the Academy Award-winning film “The Hurt Locker”.

Clay’s work has been praised by critics for its attention to detail and visual style. He has been nominated for several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Picture for “The Last Samurai”. He has also won a number of awards, including the Independent Spirit Award for Best Director for “The Tourist”.

Clay is also an active member of the Directors Guild of America, which he joined in 2002. He has served on numerous committees and panels, including the DGA's African American Steering Committee.

Clay’s most recent project is the upcoming film “The Phoenix Project”, which he is producing and directing. The film is set to be released in 2021.

Clay has also written a book, entitled “Directing the Future: A Guide to Making Feature Films”. The book provides aspiring filmmakers with valuable tips and advice on how to make their own films.
