BIO

Charles de Lauzirika is a renowned film director, producer and editor best known for his work on Ridley Scott films such as Blade Runner, Alien, Prometheus and The Martian. He has also worked on documentaries for shows such as The X-Files and The Walking Dead, as well as commercials and music videos.

Born in 1970 in Los Angeles, California, Charles de Lauzirika was raised by his parents who were both teachers. He attended the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema-Television, where he received his Bachelor’s degree. After graduating, he worked as an assistant editor for various feature films and television shows. In 1995, he made his directorial debut with the short film A Place in the Middle, which was screened at the Sundance Film Festival.

In 2001, Charles de Lauzirika worked as a special features editor on Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner: The Final Cut. This collaboration began a long professional friendship between the two, and de Lauzirika went on to produce and direct documentary special features for many other Ridley Scott films, including Prometheus and The Martian.

In 2013, de Lauzirika directed and produced the documentary Crave: The Fast and Furious Saga, which was released with the Blu-ray of Fast & Furious 6. This in-depth look into the long-running franchise won him the Saturn Award for Best DVD/Blu-ray Release.

In 2014, he released a book titled The Art and Making of The Martian, which was a companion book to the film and included interviews, behind-the-scenes stories, and images. In 2016, he directed the documentary Groundbreakers: The Story of Roger Corman, which was well-received and won the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award for Best Documentary.

Charles de Lauzirika has earned a reputation for creating high-quality documentaries that explore the themes and ideas of the films he is covering. He continues to work as a producer and director, and his recent projects include the documentary The Revenant: An Unforgettable Journey and the feature-length documentary The Disney+ Story.
