Carlye Rubin grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She was raised by her parents, who both worked in the film industry. She developed an interest in films and television at an early age and went on to study film and television at Columbia College Chicago. She graduated from college in 1994.

After graduation, Carlye Rubin moved to Los Angeles and began her career as a production assistant. She worked her way up to become an assistant director, and eventually worked her way up to become a director. She has directed numerous television episodes, including shows like 'The Vampire Diaries', 'Criminal Minds', 'Glee', and 'Pretty Little Liars'.

In 2010, Carlye Rubin made her feature film debut with 'The Last One', a horror movie about a group of friends who are forced to confront a terrifying creature. The film was well-received by critics and was a moderate success at the box office. In 2016, she directed her second feature 'The Unseen', which was an even bigger success. Her latest film, the thriller 'The Girl in the Shadows', is set to be released in 2021.

She is a member of the Directors Guild of America’s Women’s Steering Committee, and she is also the Co-Founder of The Hollywood Mentor Program, which is a program that helps young women in the film and television industry.
