Cara Santa Maria is a journalist, producer, television host, and science communicator. Born in Plano, Texas in 1984, her family moved to San Diego when she was young. Cara attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Neuroscience. After college, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in television.

In 2006, Cara joined the staff of the nationally syndicated talk show "Talk Nerdy To Me" as a producer and on-air science correspondent. She was part of the show's award-winning team for three seasons. During this time, Cara worked with Bill Nye the Science Guy, Alan Alda, and other notable celebrities.

In 2011, Cara joined the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University in New York as a Fellow. While there, she developed a new workshop that focused on how to effectively communicate science to the public. This experience led her to become a regular columnist for the Huffington Post, where she wrote about science, technology, and culture.

In 2012, Cara joined the staff of the cable news network HLN as a co-host of "The Point with Cara Santa Maria". On the show, she discussed current events and politics with other reporters and guests. She also served as a panelist on the popular news program "Real News" and was a featured guest on "The Young Turks".

In 2014, Cara joined the team at "TechKnow" as a science correspondent. The show, which aired on Al Jazeera America, featured Cara and her team as they traveled around the world to investigate the latest technological breakthroughs. The show was nominated for several awards, including an Emmy.

Cara has also appeared on several popular television shows, including "The Late Late Show with James Corden", "The Big Bang Theory", and "The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore". She has also been a guest on various podcasts, including "Joe Rogan Experience" and "The Nerdist".

Cara is an avid supporter of science education and communication. She has served as an honorary board member of the National Association of Science Writers, and she is currently a board member of the National Council for Science and the Environment. She is also a fellow for the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
