BIO

Camila Freitas is a Brazilian film director, screenwriter, and producer. She was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1982 and has been making films since she was a teenager. After studying Film and Television Production in college, she began working as a director of short films and music videos.

In 2003, Freitas wrote and directed her first feature film, “Quem É Você,” which was an independent production. It won the Rotterdam International Film Festival’s Tiger Award in 2004. Her second feature film, “Eu Te Amo,” was released in 2006 and was nominated for the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival.

Freitas’s third feature, “O Lobo Atrás da Porta,” was released in 2013 and won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. This film was highly praised for its unique take on a classic Brazilian story and its bold visual style.

Her fourth feature film, “Casa Grande,” was released in 2014 and was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. This was a coming-of-age story set in an upper-class Brazilian family. It was praised for its powerful portrayal of class differences and its examination of the long-term effects of economic inequality.
