Burt Bacharach is an American composer, songwriter, record producer, pianist, and singer, best known for his work in the music industry in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. He has composed hundreds of songs that have become classics, winning numerous awards, including three Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, eight Grammy Awards, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Born in 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri, Bacharach began playing the piano at age 5. He studied music at the Mannes College of Music in New York City and at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara. He wrote his first song at age 16, and soon after started arranging music for various productions. In 1957, he signed on with Famous Music and began writing songs for films and musicals.

Bacharach's first major success was with the song "Magic Moments," which he co-wrote with Hal David in 1957. This song was featured in the film The Pajama Game and was nominated for an Academy Award. He followed this success with other hits, including "The Look of Love," "What's New Pussycat," "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head," and "Walk On By."

Bacharach's songs have been recorded by a large number of popular music artists, including Dusty Springfield, Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, and Elvis Presley. He has also worked with other prominent composers, such as Carole King, Neil Sedaka, and B.J. Thomas.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Bacharach wrote the music and lyrics for several musicals, including Promises, Promises and What's It All About? He also wrote the music for the 1970 comedy film Lost Horizon.

Throughout his career, Bacharach has collaborated with many artists, including Dionne Warwick, Elvis Costello, and Hal David. He has been inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
