Brett Gurewitz is an American singer, songwriter, musician, producer, and record label owner. He is best known as the founder and lead guitarist of the punk rock band Bad Religion and as the owner of the independent record label Epitaph Records.
Gurewitz was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He attended Fairfax High School and was a member of the band Bad Religion since its formation in 1979. The band became a cult favorite within the punk rock scene and achieved mainstream success in the early 1990s. Gurewitz wrote and composed many of their most popular songs, including “21st Century Digital Boy” and “Sorrow.”
In addition to his work with Bad Religion, Gurewitz is the founder and owner of Epitaph Records, an independent record label that specializes in punk rock. Founded in 1980, the label has released albums by bands such as The Offspring, Rancid, and Pennywise.
