Boris Stolyarchuk (born August 19, 1956) is a Ukrainian-born actor, director, and producer. He is best known for his roles in films such as The White Guard (2008), The Edge (2010), and My Joy (2010).
Born in the Ukrainian city of Lviv, Stolyarchuk was raised in a family of artists. His mother was a sculptor, his father a professor of art history, and his grandfather was a renowned painter. At the age of 15, Stolyarchuk began acting in amateur theatrical productions, and later went on to study acting at the Kyiv National University of Theater, Film, and Television.
After graduating in 1981, Stolyarchuk began to appear in film and television roles. He made his big-screen debut in the 1988 Soviet drama White Nights and quickly gained attention for his compelling performance. Stolyarchuk then starred in a number of films throughout the 1990s, including the romantic comedy My Happy End (1997) and the historical drama The War for Freedom (1999).
In the 2000s, Stolyarchuk's career took off when he starred in several critically acclaimed films, such as The White Guard (2008), for which he won the Best Actor award at the 2009 Moscow International Film Festival. He also starred in the highly acclaimed drama My Joy (2010), which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.
In addition to his work in film, Stolyarchuk has directed several short films, including The Last Day of Winter (2009) and The Bridge (2011). He has also directed several plays in Ukraine, including the critically acclaimed staging of Othello at the Kyiv National Academic Theater of the Russian Drama.
Stolyarchuk is also a voice actor, having voiced characters in the Russian dubs of such films as The Lion King (1994) and Finding Nemo (2003). He has also done voice-work for video games, including Grand Theft Auto V (2013).
Stolyarchuk's work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise (2010) and the Order of Merit (2014). He is widely regarded as one of the finest actors of his generation, and his performances continue to inspire audiences around the world.
