Billie Joe Armstrong is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. He is best known as the lead vocalist, primary songwriter, and guitarist of the punk rock band Green Day, which he co-founded with Mike Dirnt in 1986. He is also the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the punk rock band Pinhead Gunpowder and provides lead vocals for the cover band Foxboro Hot Tubs.

Armstrong was born in Oakland, California in 1972 to a musical family. His father worked as a truck driver and his mother was a waitress. At an early age, Armstrong showed an interest in music and started playing the guitar at the age of 10.

At the age of 15, Armstrong formed his first band, Sweet Children, with his childhood friend Mike Dirnt. The band eventually evolved into the legendary punk rock group Green Day, which released their debut album, Dookie in 1994. The album was a massive success, selling over 10 million copies in the United States alone.

Green Day released several highly successful albums throughout the 1990s and 2000s, including Nimrod, Warning, American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown, and Revolution Radio. The band has achieved six Grammy Awards, several MTV Video Music Awards, and a People’s Choice Award among other accolades.

In addition to his work with Green Day, Armstrong has also released several solo albums, including Let’s Go (1995), Songs from the Garage (2004), and No Fun Mondays (2020). In addition to his musical career, Armstrong has also acted in several films, including The Sims 2 (2004), The Good Humor Man (2005), and Ordinary World (2016).

Armstrong is an outspoken activist and has been involved in several charitable causes. He is a founding member of the environmental organization, the Green Day Foundation, which works to protect the environment and promote environmental education. He is also an active supporter of the non-profit organization "Little Kids Rock", which promotes music education in public schools.

In 2014, Armstrong was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the other members of Green Day. He continues to tour with Green Day and release new music as a solo artist. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the past two decades.
