Bill Young is an American director, screenwriter, producer, and actor. He has worked in both feature films and television.
Young was born in Los Angeles, California in 1961. He began his career in the entertainment industry as an actor, making his debut in the 1982 film, “Looker”. He followed that up with appearances in films such as “The Terminator” (1984), “The Last Starfighter” (1984), “Night of the Comet” (1984), and “Back to the Future” (1985).
In the late 1980s, Young decided to switch gears and focus more on writing and directing. His first directorial effort was the 1991 television movie, “The Hit List”. The following year, he directed the television movie, “The Perfect Tribute”, which starred Sean Astin and Robert Loggia.
Young has since gone on to direct several feature films, including “The Substitute” (1996), “Lover’s Prayer” (2000), “The Big Empty” (2003), and “The Last Hurrah” (2006). He has also directed episodes of television shows such as “ER”, “CSI: Miami”, “The Practice”, “The Closer”, “Criminal Minds”, “NCIS”, and “Leverage”.
In addition to directing, Young has also written and produced several films and television shows. He wrote and produced the 1993 television movie, “The Broken Cord”, which starred Michael Moriarty and Eric Stoltz. He also wrote and produced the 2000 television movie, “The Perfect Nanny”. He has also written and produced episodes of television shows such as “Criminal Minds”, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”, “CSI: Miami”, and “Cold Case”.
Young’s latest directorial effort was the 2011 film, “The Perfect Family”, which starred Kathleen Turner, Emily Deschanel, and Richard Chamberlain. The film was an official selection of the Tribeca Film Festival, and was also nominated for several awards, including the Grand Jury Prize at the Seattle International Film Festival.
