Berîvan Saruhan was born in Mardin in 1994. She graduated from the Department of Kurdish Language and Literature at Mardin Artuklu University in 2017 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Kurdish Language and Culture at the university’s Institute of Living Languages. Over the years, she has been actively involved in civil society organisations focused on migration and the fight against gender-based violence. For four years, she worked with the Istanbul Women’s Time Association, continuing her advocacy for women’s rights and gender equality. Since 2016, she has also worked as a sworn freelance translator, editor, and Kurdish language instructor. Stêrka Li Ser Xetê is her first documentary film.
