Avelino Silva Dias (1912–1989) was a Portuguese actor and director best known for his work in Portuguese theater and film. He was born in the city of Oporto, Portugal, on October 20, 1912.

Avelino began his career in theater with the Grupo dos Sete, a theater group in Oporto. He quickly made a name for himself as an actor in leading roles in plays such as "O Anjo Azul", "A Máscara do Deus", "Amor de Perdição" and "O Rei de Vila-Cova".

In the 1940s, Avelino moved to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, and began his career in film. He was the lead actor in the first Portuguese feature-length film "O Desterro", released in 1945. His performance in the film earned him critical acclaim as a talented actor and paved the way for his future work.

Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Avelino starred in several classic Portuguese films such as "São Jorge das Ilhas", "O Diabo e a Terra", "O Pão Nosso de Cada Dia", "Noite de São João" and "A Última Canção". He also directed the film "Os Amantes de Estrela", which was released in 1956.

In the 1960s, Avelino left the film industry and returned to the theater, where he wrote and directed plays such as "O Anjo Azul", "O Segredo da Cruz" and "O Homem do Cão".

Avelino was the recipient of several awards, including the Medal of Merit of the City of Oporto in 1953, the Medal of Merit of the Portuguese Republic in 1960, and the Gold Medal of the Portuguese Cinematheque in 1984.

Avelino Silva Dias passed away on April 23, 1989 in Lisbon, Portugal. He is remembered as one of Portugal's most beloved actors, directors and playwrights and his legacy lives on through his work in theater and film.
