Assunta Masotti is an Italian actress best known for her roles in films such as 'La Strada' and 'Il Postino'. Born on November 9, 1935 in Monzuno, Emilia Romagna, Masotti moved to Rome at the age of 17 to pursue a career in acting.

She began her career in the theater, appearing in several productions with the Teatro Stabile di Genova. In the early 1950s, Masotti began appearing in films, making her debut in the 1954 drama 'La Strada'. Directed by Federico Fellini, the film starred Masotti as Gelsomina, a young woman who is sold to a travelling circus. Her performance earned Masotti critical acclaim and a nomination for the Venice Film Festival's Silver Lion award.

In the late 1950s, Masotti began appearing in films produced by Alberto Lattuada. Her roles in the films 'The Job' and 'The Wise Guys' earned her further praise. In 1964, Masotti starred in the comedy-drama 'Il Postino', which earned her a Best Actress nomination at the David di Donatello awards.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Masotti continued to appear in a variety of films, including 'The Invincible Three', 'The Garden of the Finzi-Continis', and 'The Family'. She also appeared in several television series, including 'The Time of the Angels' and 'The Youngest Son'.
