Arturo Sandoval is one of the most renowned jazz musicians of all time, having been awarded ten Grammy Awards and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He is a Cuban-American composer, trumpeter, and pianist who has been playing music since the age of seven.

Sandoval was born in Artemisa, Cuba in 1949. He was exposed to music from a young age, as his father was a professional musician and his mother was a music teacher. He began his formal training at the age of thirteen, when he entered the Escuela Nacional de Música (National Music School) in Havana. It was here that he studied classical trumpet and piano.

In 1977, Sandoval moved to Miami, Florida, where he continued to pursue his musical career. He quickly gained recognition for his talent, and he was invited to join Dizzy Gillespie's United Nation Orchestra in 1981. Sandoval toured extensively with Gillespie for the next five years, and it was during this time that he developed his own signature style, combining the Afro-Cuban rhythms of his homeland with bebop and modern jazz.

In the early 1990s, Sandoval began to receive worldwide recognition for his music. He released several albums, including Danzón, Flight to Freedom, and A Time for Love, which all featured his unique blend of jazz, classical, and Latin music. He was even featured on the soundtrack of the film For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story, which was based on his life.

In addition to his musical career, Sandoval is also a teacher and mentor to many young musicians. He has been a professor at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami since 1992, and he has mentored many of his students and encouraged them to pursue their musical dreams.

In 2013, Sandoval was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in recognition of his “extraordinary musical career and commitment to education.” He has also been inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame, and he is the recipient of numerous other awards and honors.
