Ari Vatanen is a Finnish rally driver and politician born on 27 April 1952 in Helsinki, Finland. He is a four-time world rally champion and a former European Rally Champion. He is also a Member of the European Parliament, representing Finland.

Vatanen began his racing career in 1976 and quickly established himself as a formidable driver on the rally circuit. He won the European Rally Championship in 1981 and then went on to win the World Rally Championship title four times, in 1981, 1982, 1985 and 1987. He was also the first driver to win a World Rally Championship event in a four-wheel drive car.
