Antonio Capuano is an Italian film director and screenwriter born in Naples on April 20, 1951. He is best known for his work in the genres of drama and documentary films.

Capuano began his career in the 1970s, working as an assistant director in the Italian film industry. He later moved to Rome, where he studied at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and received a degree in film directing.

His first feature film, Terra di Nessuno (1992), was awarded the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival. He has since won several awards for his subsequent films, including La Lunga Notte del ‘43 (1998) and La Notte (1999).

Capuano has collaborated with several acclaimed actors, such as Stefania Sandrelli, Nanni Moretti, and Jean-Louis Trintignant. He has also worked with several renowned Italian cinematographers, such as Luca Bigazzi and Daniele Ciprì.

In the 2000s, Capuano began to focus more on documentary films. He directed the documentary Il Corpo e l’Anima (2005), which was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. He has also worked on other documentaries, such as Una Vita Sottile (2007) and Il Volo (2010).

Capuano’s most recent feature film is L’Amore Buio (2014). The film was nominated for Best Director and Best Film at the 2014 David di Donatello Awards.
