Andy Partridge is an English singer, songwriter, and guitarist who is best known as the frontman and principal songwriter of the new wave band XTC. Born in 1949 in Swindon, England, Partridge grew up in a musical family – his father was a jazz saxophonist and his mother and grandmother both sang. After being inspired by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, Partridge formed his own band, the Helium Kidz, at age 14.

The Helium Kidz eventually evolved into XTC, and Partridge became the primary songwriter and lead vocalist of the group. XTC released their first album, White Music, in 1978, and were soon signed to Virgin Records. With their unique blend of punk, new wave, and pop influences, XTC released a string of critically acclaimed albums and singles throughout the 1980s, including “Making Plans for Nigel,” “Senses Working Overtime,” and “Dear God.”

In 1982, Partridge released his first solo album, Take Away/The Lure of Salvage, which featured his signature blend of acoustic folk and electric rock. He went on to release a series of solo albums, including Fuzzy Warbles in 2002 and Ape House in 2010. In addition to his solo work, Partridge has collaborated with a number of high-profile artists, including Peter Gabriel, Thomas Dolby, and Dave Gregory.

Partridge has also become a noted producer, working on albums by the Dukes of Stratosphear, the Monkees, and De La Soul. He has also become a prolific songwriter, contributing to a number of film soundtracks, including the Oscar-winning animated film The Triplets of Belleville.

In addition to his musical pursuits, Partridge is a passionate gardener, and he often writes and records in his home studio, which is located in the garden of his home in Swindon. He is widely respected by his peers in the music industry, and his influence can be heard in the work of a number of prominent bands, including Radiohead and Blur.
