BIO

Andrea Calderwood is an award-winning British film producer whose work has been recognised in the Academy Awards, BAFTA Awards, and Cannes Film Festival. She is best known for producing the feature films The Last King of Scotland, The Whistleblower, and The Constant Gardener.

Calderwood was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland. She attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, and after graduating, she began her career in the entertainment industry as a production assistant for the BBC. During this time, she worked on a variety of projects, including music documentaries, radio plays, and television drama series.

In 1991, Calderwood moved to London and joined the production company Ingenious Media. There, she worked as a development producer and met with filmmakers to discuss potential projects. It was during this time that she began to develop a strong interest in producing feature films.

In 1997, Calderwood produced her first feature film, The Last King of Scotland. The film was a critical success, earning her a BAFTA award for Best British Film and an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

Calderwood went on to produce other critically acclaimed films, including The Whistleblower (2007), which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival; The Constant Gardener (2005), which was nominated for four Academy Awards; and The Last King of Scotland (2006), which was nominated for four BAFTAs.

In addition to her feature film work, Calderwood has produced documentaries, including The Children of Beslan (2005), which won the Audience Award at the Toronto International Film Festival; and The Edge of Dreaming (2009), which won the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

Calderwood is currently working on a number of projects, including the upcoming drama film The Mauritanian, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jodie Foster. She is also developing a documentary about the Scottish independence movement.

Calderwood's films have earned her numerous awards and nominations, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture for The Constant Gardener. She is a highly respected member of the film industry and an inspiration to aspiring producers.
