Anas El Gomati is an innovative and experienced director of photography and filmmaker based in Los Angeles, California. He is the founder and creative director of Gomati Pictures, a production company specializing in commercial and narrative films.
Anas was born in London in 1987 to a family of mixed backgrounds and cultures. His father is Libyan and his mother is British, which has greatly shaped his outlook on life and enabled him to view the world from many different perspectives. He grew up in the UK, and it was here that he first developed a deep interest in film and cinematography.
Anas attended the University of Westminster in London, where he studied television and film production. After completing his degree, he moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to further pursue his passion.
Anas’s career as a director of photography began when he worked on several music videos for various artists. His work caught the attention of major brands such as Nike, Adidas and Toyota, and he was soon hired to direct and photograph their television commercials. His work in commercial projects led to him winning several awards, including a Cannes Lions award and several Emmy nominations.
In 2009, Anas founded Gomati Pictures, a production company that specializes in narrative and commercial films. He has since directed and produced several critically acclaimed films, including “The Last Days of Summer,” “The Man Who Knew Infinity,” and “The Big Sick.” He has also directed several music videos, documentaries and web series.
Anas’s work has been recognized by the Academy Awards, Sundance Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, and Tribeca Film Festival. He has also received several awards for his work, including the Best Cinematography award at the Aspen Shortsfest for “The Man Who Knew Infinity” and the Best Direction award at the Indie Memphis Film Festival for “The Big Sick.”
