BIO

Ana Husman is a Croatian director, screenwriter, film editor, and producer who has become one of the most well-known figures in the Croatian film industry. Born in Zagreb, Croatia in 1989, she grew up in an artistic family that encouraged creative expression. From a young age, she was fascinated with the power of storytelling through film and decided to pursue her passion for the medium in her studies.

At the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb, Ana studied film and television direction. During her studies, she created several short films and documentaries that explored various themes, including gender and identity. She also wrote, edited, and produced these projects, demonstrating her impressive range of skills. She graduated with a Master of Arts degree in 2013.

Ana’s short film “Eclipse” won the best film prize at the Zagreb Film Festival in 2012. This encouraged her to continue creating short films and experimenting with her craft. She was selected as a Berlinale Talents participant in 2015, and her short film, “The Woman Who Saved the World”, was nominated for a Student Academy Award in 2016.

Her feature film debut, “Quit Staring at My Plate”, premiered at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival. The film was a critical success, and it won several awards, including the Critics’ Week Grand Prize at the Venice International Film Festival and the Audience Award at the Sarajevo Film Festival.

Ana has since directed several award-winning films, including “The Eighth Commissioner”, “The Load”, and “My Favorite War”. In 2020, she directed the critically acclaimed television series “The Plot Against America”, which earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series.

Ana is a passionate storyteller, and her work often explores themes of family, identity, and social issues. Her films have been praised for their unique style and emotional depth, and she has become one of the most acclaimed directors in Croatia. Her work has been featured in numerous film festivals around the world, and she is an inspiration to aspiring filmmakers everywhere.
